Ruggable Rug Assembly Guide

Ruggable rugs have different setup needs depending on the rug type. This guide covers All-in-One Rugs, Easy Care Wool rugs, and Two-Piece Rug Systems, including rug pad placement and size-specific setup tips.

How to Set Up an All-in-One Rug

  1. Unroll and Relax: Unroll your All-in-One Rug and let it relax flat.

  2. Add a Rug Pad (Optional): If you purchased an All-in-One Cushioned Rug Pad, set up the pad first. It can be used on hardwood, laminate, vinyl, tile, concrete, and stone.

How to Set Up an Easy Care Wool Rug

  1. Unroll and Relax: Unroll your Easy Care Wool rug and allow it to relax flat.

  2. Add a Rug Pad (Recommended): Easy Care Wool rugs do not have a nonslip backing. On hardwood, laminate, vinyl, tile, concrete, and stone, we strongly recommend an All-in-One Cushioned Rug Pad to improve traction, add cushioning, and help protect both the rug and floor from friction and wear.

  3. Placement: Easy Care Wool rugs are for indoor use only. Avoid damp areas such as bathrooms, basements, and spots next to humidifiers or vents.

How to Assemble a Two-Piece Rug System

  1. Set Up the Pad: Place your rug pad where you want the rug.

  2. Roll Up the Cover: Roll up the rug cover with the design side facing in. This allows the grippy backing to make contact with the rug pad as you unroll it.

  3. Position: Place the rolled rug cover along one short end of the rug pad.

  4. Align Corners: Before pressing the cover down, position one starting corner so the rug cover extends slightly past the rug pad on both edges of that corner. Then align the other corner on the same starting edge so the cover sits straight and the overhang looks even.

  5. Anchor: Once the starting edge is straight and evenly positioned, press it down to anchor it.

  6. Unroll: Slowly unroll the rug cover down the length of the rug pad, smoothing from the center outward as you go.

  7. Check Seams: If your Rug Pad has multiple pieces, pause before reaching the seam and confirm the pad pieces are still pushed tightly together.

  8. Center: Continue unrolling and smoothing, keeping the rug cover centered so the overhang stays even on all sides.

  9. Finish: Press along the edges to finish.

Setup Help by Size

Two-Piece Rug Systems use the same basic assembly method for all sizes. Larger rugs may require more open space and an extra set of hands.

Notes

60x90, 90x150, 120x185, 150x215, all runners, 185 Round, 245 Round

1 person

Best for smaller spaces and solo setup.

185x275, 200x290, 245x305

2 people

One person can help keep the Rug Cover aligned while the other unrolls and smooths.

275x1362, 305x425

2 people + open space

Assemble the rug in a clear area at least as large as the rug. Once the Rug Cover is attached to the Rug Pad, carefully roll up the assembled rug, carry it to its final spot, and unroll it into place.

Rug Pad Alignment Guide

Rugs are designed to be slightly larger than the rug pad so the pad stays hidden once assembled. This extra material around the edges is called overhang.

Keep the rug centered over the rug pad so the overhang is even on all sides. Smaller sizes may have around 1–2 inches of overhang, while larger sizes may have more.

For Two-Piece Rug Systems, the rug cover grips the rug pad as soon as it makes contact, so it cannot be easily slid into place afterward.

Pad Type

  • Standard Pad: The required low-profile option for Two-Piece Rug Systems.

  • Cushioned Pad: An optional thicker option for Two-Piece Rug Systems that adds extra cushioning and comfort.

  • All-in-One Cushioned Pad: An optional accessory that adds cushioning under All-in-One rugs. For Easy Care Wool rugs on hard floors, we strongly recommend it to improve traction and help protect the rug and floor from friction and wear.

Pad Configuration

  • Side-by-side pieces: Lay the pieces flush against each other along the long edge with no gap or overlap.

  • Puzzle pieces: Interlock the pieces and press the teeth fully together so the pad lies flat.

Assembly Tips

  • Multi-piece pads: Push the pieces tightly together before setup and re-check the seams as you go. Slight bumps at the seam should relax within a few days.

  • Bumps or bubbles: Smooth them from the center outward. Any remaining unevenness should flatten on its own over a few days.

  • Flattening: Use a vacuum on a low setting or a dry sweeper to help smooth the rug.

  • Tight spaces: Assemble the rug in a larger open area, then carefully roll it up and move it into place.

  • Heavy creasing: Let the rug relax flat for a day before setup.

  • Larger rugs: Clear enough floor space before you start and use a second set of hands if needed.

  • Easy Care Wool rugs: On hard floors, use an All-in-One Cushioned Rug Pad to improve traction and help keep the rug flat.
