January 7, 2025

New year, new rugs. After an overwhelming response to our first collaboration with Architectural Digest, we’re thrilled to announce the return of our iconic partnership. This time we’re focusing on the top interior design trends of 2025 with a collection of elegant, washable rugs. Curated by AD’s Global Interiors & Garden Director, Alison Levasseur, and brought to life by Ruggable’s design team, the collection is a masterclass in taking classic styles and updating them for a modern sensibility. And before you ask, Levasseur has the answer: “These trends aren’t trendy — they’re timeless.”

Centreing on three big themes of art deco, industrial, and archaic, our Ruggable x AD rugs bridge the past and present with designs that are as functional as they are beautiful. Read on to discover how these styles are reshaping interiors in 2025 and how you can incorporate them into your home.

Art Deco

Synonymous with 1920s opulence, Art Deco returns with a contemporary twist. “It’s evocative of bygone glamour, but it feels current,” says Levasseur. In 2025, expect symmetrical patterns, metallic finishes, and a softer, more liveable approach to this classic style.

Architectural Digest Ayla Gold Rug

Sunny living room with modern art deco decor featuring furniture with rounded corners, metal accents, and golden colors.

Inspired by the intricate art deco works of French jewellery maker Jean Després, this design features symmetrical, intersecting arcs and a monochromatic palette of gold hues. The result is a warm, metallic tone that feels like jewellery for your floor. According to Ruggable Creative Director Cassandra Leisz, “Art deco has always symbolised optimism and a forward-looking spirit,” making this a perfect rug for the new year. Use it to elevate your entryway or add a sense of hope to an everyday space.

Architectural Digest Avery Midnight Blue Rug

Mixing intricate cream linework with a deep navy blue background, this rug combines the elegance of the 1920s with the modern push towards restorative, dark tones. In Levasseur's words, the design is "surprisingly neutral," allowing it to work in a variety of rooms.

Architectural Digest Réseau Camel Rug

Inspired by the geometry of famed architect Le Corbusier, this rug features layered rectangles and warm terracotta tones. As Ruggable Creative Strategist Claire Pinckney says, "Art Deco is really known for its defined linework, and we've made that much softer and more organic here." Pair it with sleek furniture and metallic accents to create a sophisticated, cohesive look in your living room or dining area.

Industrial

Once defined by cold metals and stark minimalism, today’s industrial style incorporates rich colours, organic textures, and a sense of warmth. “A misconception about industrial is that it’s hard and stiff, but it can be soft and have a feminine side,” says Levasseur. Taking cues from weathered materials and metallic patinas, this trend creates a look that’s lived-in yet refined.

Architectural Digest Brooklyn Copper Clay Rug

Inspired by the layered beauty of New York City’s urban landscape, this rug features tones of terracotta, copper, and dark maroon. “It reminds me of aged brick,” says Leisz. The design mimics the texture of eroding surfaces, adding movement and depth to any room. Pair it with warm lighting or soft textiles to create a grounded, inviting space.

Architectural Digest Dresden Shadow Multicolour Rug

Featuring broad, textured strokes, this abstract design layers warm and cool tones like cream, sage, dark teal, and deep brown. "There’s something so painterly about this rug," says Levasseur. The interplay of colour and texture creates a sense of movement and balance, bringing an artistic, high-end feel to any room. That includes anchoring open-concept spaces or adding depth to long hallways.

Architectural Digest Terran Burgundy Rug

The playful dotted pattern of our Terran Rugs varies in size, intensity, and spacing, creating a dynamic surface with subtly shifting movement. Available in warm moss green and rich burgundy palettes, both designs balance their core colours with taupe and light beige drops. The result is representative of what Leisz refers to as the "warm, grounding palette" of this new industrial look. Place it in a study or office for a creative spark, or use it to add texture and colour to a cosy gathering space.

Archaic

The archaic trend brings the raw, imperfect beauty of the natural world into modern interiors. “We’re looking backwards to look forwards,” says Pinckney. Think cave-like chalk walls, sinuous curves, patinas, and other elements derived from nature. Through it all, there's a sense of grounding warmth, making archaic-inspired designs perfect for home interiors.

Architectural Digest Jorda Bronze Natural Rug

Drawing inspiration from totemic structures, this rug features an abstract nod to stacked stones. The patina-like raw edges create a feeling of erosion that goes hand-in-hand with the neutral, earthy colour scheme. It’s a perfect choice for grounding a living room or adding warmth to a minimalist bedroom.

Architectural Digest Lydos Shadow & Bronze Rug

Our Lydos design is about asymmetric balance, with bold strokes creating a sense of push and pull. In other words, as Levasseur put it, "It has an edge." The Stone & Indigo colourway features a tranquil palette of blues against a neutral background, while our Shadow & Bronze rug offers warm taupes against deep teal. Both rugs evoke the depth and texture of natural landscapes, making them perfect for cosy living rooms or serene bedrooms.
